Film Screening "The Host and The Cloud", Pierre Huygues

Pierre Huyghe creates immersive complex systems and environments, that take the form of installations and videos, populated by a wide range of life forms, objects and technologies. A mixture of biological, technological, and fictional elements, these perpetually mutating environments provide a space in which the human, animal and non-human can learn, evolve, and develop. Huyghe’s film, The Host and the Cloud, presents three performances at the Musée des Arts et Traditions Populaires (Museum of Arts and Folk Traditions) during Valentine’s Day, Halloween, and Labour Day. The museum, empty of visitors, is haunted by a rabbit and actors that readapt themes taken from these popular celebrations (seduction and love, fear and anxiety, power).

Pierre Huyghe graduated from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Paris in 1985. He was awarded the Kurt Schwitters Prize (Germany) in 2016 and the Nasher Prize (USA) in 2017. He has participated in numerous exhibitions including documenta XIII, Kassel (2012); Guggenheim Bilbao, Spain (2017); and Serpentine Gallery, London (2018). His work has also been exhibited as part of the Baltic Triennial 13 (2018); Intimate Distance, MO.CO. Hôtel des Collections, Montpellier, France (2019); NTU-Centre for Contemporary Art, Singapore (2019); and FRAC, Île-de-France (2020).
